| A few words... | The classic novel by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee has been filmed many times. In 1935 P. C. Barua made both a Hindi version starring singer/actor K. L. Saigal as Devdas and a Bengali version, in which he played the title role himself. The most famous Devdas version was made by Bimal Roy in 1955. Sanjay Leela Bhansali attempted to translate it into the language of toothpaste commercials. The Cannes audience was delighted. |
