After a degree in microbiology Madhuri Dixit joined the movies. Her first hit was N. Chandra's Tezaab, which is still remembered for the famous "Ek Do Teen"-Song. Madhuri became famous for her roles in the films of Subhash Ghai (Ram Lakhan, Khal Nayak) and Indra Kumar (Dil, Beta). She is also considered a superb dancer. In 1993 the song "Choli Ke Pechhe" from the movie Khal Nayak became well-known even outside India.

In Indra Kumar's Raja, Madhuri excels opposite Anil Kapoor's brother Sanjay Kapoor.In 1997 Madhuri appeared in Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai and in Raj Kumar Santoshi's Lajja. Her last appearance was the role of Chandramukhi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas.

In 2002 Madhuri withdrew from the screen. She married the surgeon Sriram Nene and moved to the US. They have two sons: Arin, born in 2003; and Ryan, born in 2005. In 2007 Madhuri celebrated a sensational comeback with Aaja Nachle.
