Together with Kajol, Sushmita Sen and Rani Mukherjee Preity Zinta forms the top quartett of Bollywood heroines. After starting her career as a model and an actress in ads, Preity Zinta entered Hindi films as supporting actress in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se. This role assured her the Filmfare Award for the best female newcomer. Also Dil Se was and is still a much appreciated movie outside India and so European and American audiences became aware of Bollywood's new starlet. In 2000 she acted in the Telugu movie Raja Kumarudu, which was also released in a dubbed version in Tamil titled Kaadhal Vennila.
The film Dil Chahta Hai with a huge star cast brought her a lot of recognition and in 2003 she finally made it to the top acting in Rakesh Roshan's Koi ... Mil Gaya and together with Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan in the super hit Kal Ho Naa Ho. Yash Chopra heavily relied on the Shah Rukh-Preity magic with his Veer Zaara. After Kal Ho Naa Ho Preity Zinta had another hit with Saif Ali Khan starring in Salaam Namaste and opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Her best performance in 2007 was Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
Preity was cast for the role of Chand Grewal by Deepa Mehta for her upcoming release Heaven on Earth.
